Information to Assist Consumers
As a consumer the DSA provides the following pages to help you be more aware of who to deal with and what your rights are in dealing with Direct Sellers.

Door to Door Selling is covered under the Fair Trading Act which regulates such sales as "Uninvited Direct Sales" and provides for consumer rights of cancellation of up to 5 working days. The DSA Code provides 10 days right of cancellation or 5 working days whichever is the greater.

Sales made by other methods by our members are still bound by the DSA Code obligations even if the sale is invited and not captured by this provision in the Fair Trading Act.

The DSA does not operate a "do not call register" or do not mail as these are functions of the Marketing Association and related to Direct Marketing activities. However should you wish to use those registers go to our links page for access to the Marketing Association pages containing these options.

Those members of the public that do not wish to have door to door sellers knock on their doors should promenantly display a do not knock sticker to advise of this. The DSA expects its members to respect such notices as a matter of good practice.

Members of the public can identify our members not only by their names appearing on this web site but also from the DSA logo on their material and the DSA introduction letter that most members will use to prove they are a DSA member.
